Back to a New School

Dear Diary,
Well, tomorrow marks the second week of school for the Sasha and Malia at Sidwell Friends. I think the girls like it there, though I know it hasn’t been exactly easy to come into this school being the daughters of the president. It’s hard enough for anyone to have to change schools in the middle of the year, let alone having to come in with such a prominent name. But these girls are such troopers, and they are really making the best of the situation. Not to mention, they’re already talking about all the friends they’re making, which is wonderful.
It would have been easier for them to start their new school after having already moved into the Presidential guest house. It will be tough to have to deal with this new school, as well as move into their new home. But the kids are resilient, and I’m sure they’ll do a fine job adjusting.
We released pictures of the girls saying goodbye to their father in our hotel room, as they were getting ready to attend their new school on their first day. I know that many cameras filmed their journey to Sidwell Friends and many news venues reported the occasion, but I hope this is their last moment in the spotlight for a while, and that they are able to enjoy some privacy, like every other child. After all, switching schools in the middle of the year is tough enough, as I’m sure most parents would agree. I’m hoping that the news will lay off any further reports on the girls so that they can lead as normal lives as possible.
Your always,
Michelle
