Long (But Admittedly Fun) Day

Dear Diary,
Wow, what a day! Inauguration Day was incredible. Can’t hardly believe it all happened. We started the day with by going to church, then joining the Bushes and the Cheneys for coffee at the White House, which was pretty awkward. In her defense, Laura tried to make polite conversation, but Dick was sullen and George tried cracked some pretty inane jokes.
But oh boy, it was such a cold day. I worried about the girls, but at least they were wearing their warmest (and cutest, in my opinion) winter coats. It was pretty obvious that the cold weather was hardest on the elderly, as seen by the Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd’s health complications. I hear they’re both doing much better, which is quite a relief. Just evidence of how cold it was, especially since we were outside for such long periods of time.
I later heard from my mom that a lot of people were concerned when Barack and I got out of the car and were walking part of the way to the White House. I can understand why, what Kennedy’s assassination and all. But it was nice to get out and stretch my legs. Of course, then I was freezing, and unable to close my jacket, which didn’t help. But at least I looked good in that beautifully sunny coat.
Speaking of looking good, I loved the Jason Wu dress! Of course I knew exactly what I was going to wear, but I couldn’t give that away. Had to maintain an element of surprise. Anyway, it was a bit tiring to go to all the balls, and Barack is such a funny dancer. He did step on my dress a few times, which I was not thrilled about. But at least he tried to spin me around a couple times. And he started off a ball by announcing how beautiful I am… Can’t get enough of that!
Yours always,
Michelle
