Chicago's Mayor Richard M. Daley, has announced that it 's time for the curtain call. Next year, the act will close and Chicago will have to get along with a Daley. After six terms, a seventh is not to be. Though the mayor was down in the polls, only 37% thought he was doing a good job, that was no political reason for him to quit. He had no political challenger. He was the city boss who managed his rivals so well that none chose to oppose him.
Rumor says that he's stepping down because his wife is ill, and after what will be twenty plus years in one-job, maybe he really does want to move on and try something different.
Chicago business leaders are wailing and lamenting, fearful that with Daily gone a period of political uncertainly will come, and that won't be good for business.
Anyway, Chicago won't be the same without a Daley in city hall, See the video.
